Abstract

The success or failure of achieving educational goals is highly dependent on the learning process experienced by students. Related to efforts to improve students' reading comprehension, especially in Indonesian Language subjects, teachers are required to use various appropriate learning methods. So far, dominant learning uses lecture methods that are less interesting for students, so that it has an impact on students' low reading ability. This study aims to determine the improvement of students' reading comprehension skills before and after using the SQ3R method, as well as to find out how to implement this method in learning in class IV A MI Al Hidayat. This SQ3R method is expected to make students' learning more active, more creative, more fun, and faster to understand the information they have just read and learned, especially Indonesian Language subjects. The method of this research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with a cycle model. The subject of the study is a student of grade IV A MI Al Hidayat. The study was conducted in two cycles, where each cycle ended with a test to see the improvement of reading comprehension. Data collection techniques are carried out through tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that before the implementation of the SQ3R method, the completeness of students' learning outcomes in terms of reading comprehension was 63% with an average score below KKTP 73, which was 62%. In its implementation, reading comprehension ability increased gradually, namely 72%, but the average score was still below KKTP 73. There was a significant increase in student learning outcomes after the implementation of the SQ3R method, namely 91% of students achieved success indicators with scores above 73. This shows that the use of the SQ3R method is effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills, especially in the Indonesian Language subject in class IV A MI Al Hidayat.
